Why Technology cannot replace Teachers in Future Classrooms
RHEA SOLOMON LAGRISOLA
A modern classroom nowadays is defined with technology. Teacher and education managers have constant pressure on how technology can be implemented in classes. Though there are various advantages of making use of technology in teaching, the question remains – can technology replace teacher in future classrooms? Well, I say resoundingly no. though helpful in many ways, technologies can never replace a teacher. Here are some reasons: Several researches have been conducted and it has been proven time and again that teachers bring about a change and make a great impact on the lives of the learners which no technology can. No matter how advanced or brilliant a computer program is, it can never come close to the knowledge, wisdom, and life experience a teacher brings. Teacher do not simply teach concept and skill. Any new technology can do that. Good teacher inspire young people to be lifelong learners. Good teacher encourage independent learning. They are role models who set an example to pupils and lead them toward a brighter future. Good teacher have the skill to know exactly how to deal with pupils with individual differences and bring out the best in them. Teacher want the best for their learners. The trust and attachment between a teacher and pupil creates the perfect learning environment; which can never be achieved through virtual learning. Having said that, in today’s world the traditional method of books, chalk, and board will not work. Teacher have to keep up and be updated with the trends to be able to equip themselves with the latest in technology. They have to incorporate/ integrate the technological innovations in teaching without losing their control over the classroom.
The Generation today loves technology. Teachers should overcome their fear and explore new ideas and ways to engage with the learners. Teacher can learn the working of technological tools along with their pupils. They can discuss about various ideas that they can implement to create projects and learn. The usage of educational technology will not only motivate the learners, but teachers as well.
So, where do we stand in the debate of teachers versus technology? In my opinion, computers and technology are of great help because such tools are brilliant in giving information to both pupils and teachers. But at the same time having information readily available does not necessarily encourage or motivate learning. Technology is certainly changing the way pupils learn, but it cannot be termed as a replacement for teachers. Information is only one aspect of learning; what is missing is human interaction. Teachers are the stepping stones to achieve the goals of every learner and become successful in the future. They get encouraged by the compassionate and big-hearted teachers. Can the computer or any other device motivate the learners? I say no – after all they were humans with emotions who made technology itself. Technology can only be a helping factor to learn, but it cannot replace the knowledge and experience that come with a teacher.
