DepEd Commons supports distance learning for teachers during pandemic

DepEd Commons, the agency’s online platform that seeks to enhance public school teachers' remote learning options marked its first year anniversary recently with more than 9 million users.
The platform was created to provide immediate access to online review materials and Open Educational Resources (OERs) during class suspensions and other similar situations.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones said the program is a practical option for on-going learning in a time when community quarantines and social distancing policies make face-to-face learning practically impossible.
Initially, the platform lacked much-needed support from students and parents, as the new learning plan necessitates that all parties have the essential equipment.
To use the platform, teachers and students should have a laptop, desktop computer, tablet PC, or tablet.
The most critical need is that both parties have a reliable internet connection. And, as a result of these requirements, the issue of affordability arises.
Alain Del Pascua, undersecretary for Administration and DepEd Commons' principal proponent, believes that the platform will remain important as the pandemic progresses and vaccinations become available, as well as discussions about the possible resumption of face-to-face sessions.
