JCI Angeles City launches online visits for Pampanga Provincial Jail detainees
ANGELES CITY--As part of its “Beyond Prison Walls” program, JCI Angeles City Culiat launched “E-Konek: Bars are not barriers, online dalaw” by providing five computer units to the Pampanga Provincial Jail ( PPJ) .
Inspired by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology “EDalaw Program," the project aims to address the difficulty faced by Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) in the face of the ongoing pandemic crisis in terms of personal visitations.
"As precautionary measures on the spread of Covid-19, family visits in detention facilities have been suspended since the pandemic hit the country in March 2020. The organization finds another alternative way to provide the psychological and emotional needs of our PDLs through this Online Dalaw,” Ruth Cunanan, project head, said.
This project will allow PDLs to connect with their loved ones through digital means like video cal l s.
CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - Six towns in Bulacan recently received motorized banca from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) here to further boost the cleanup and rehabilitation of river systems directly flowing into the greater portion of Manila Bay.
Emelita Lingat, head of the DENR-Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in Bulacan, said the towns of Obando, Marilao, Paombong and Hagonoy, along with the cities of Malolos and Meycauyan, were among the recipients of motorized banca, which would be used to intensify waterway patrolling and monitoring activities of the DENR and local government.
"The distribution of these boats is fundamental in our Manila Bay cleanup and rehabilitation efforts. These boats will be used in cleanup, monitoring and law enforcement activities, as well as in water quality testing in major river systems and streams in Bulacan," she explained.
She also reported that these motorized banca would be added to the seven boats previously distributed to towns of Marilao, Meycauayan, Bulakan, Obando, Paombong, Hagonoy, and the City of Malolos on 2018, which were then used for garbage collection.
Manila Bay has a total coastline of 190 kilometers, where 75 percent or 142 kilometers of it is part of Central Luzon.
"With the community quarantine and social distancing in effect, many families are unable to get together and keep one another company. This is particularly disheartening for the PDLs, as one of the few little things they look forward to is a visit from their loved ones. Through this project they will be able to maintain that significant and nourishing connection,” Cunanan said.
With the support of Culiat’s partner companies - Savers Group of Holdings, Savers Electronic World Inc. Sharp, LG Philippines, House of Chops, KID2 Corporation & Q-Check — it is one of the many projects the organization has in store in terms of addressing the pandemic.
