Angeles City to plant 45-K more trees in watershed area
ANGELES CITY -- The local government unit here will plant 45,000 seedlings and install four solar water pumps in its watershed located in Barangay Sapangbat o.
Mayor Carmelo "Pogi" Lazatin, Jr. said this is part of the city’s efforts to reforest the 560-hectare w at er shed .
In Lazatin’s letter to Bases Conversion and Development Authority President and Chief Executive Officer Vivencio Dizon, he also asked the agency to allow the city government to install four shallow tube well solar pumps at the soonest possible time in the watershed.
The pumps are needed for the care of the 45,000 seedlings to be planted this year in partnership with Department of Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade; Abacan River and Angeles Watershed Advocacy Council Inc. (ARAW -ACI) led by businessman and environmentalist Renato “Abong” Tayag; and Clark International Airport Corporation led by Gen. Aaron Aquino.
The watershed is owned by BCDA.
ANGELES CITY— A P20 million center for child care, rehabilitation and reformation center will rise here under the leadership of Mayor Carmelo “Pogi” Lazatin Jr.
Called “Kanlungan ng Kabataan,” the construction of the center will be
“Once in the city’s custody, children will go to school thru ALS, they will be taught skills and undergo counselling so we can reintegrate back to the community,” she added. Calaguas also mentioned this is the first time the city will establish a reformation for youth sniffing solvent.
“This was actually pattern to the Sagip Batang Solvent we had in Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency — a brainchild of General Aaron Aquino,” Calaguas she said.
Bahay Pag asa, on the other hand, is a child-caring institutions built to offer rehabilitation and intervention to children in conflict with the law.
Under the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act, these facilities are established and run by local government. The city’s Bahay Pag Asa is existing since 2018. “Here in ‘Kanlungang ng Kabataan,’ the city will provide care for these children,” Lazatin sai d.
“While constructing the center, the city will hire and train house parents and staff composed of social workers. The city will also come up with meal plan, house rules and activities,” Lazatin added.
