Why do we need to study MATHEMATICS?

-

Antonia J. Canlas I would like to start with this quote: “Mathematics is the most beautiful and most powerful creation of the human spirit.” – Stefan Banach Math has always been criticized by several people and I would say in most of the memes. It's just the wrong belief of the people which is continuously spreading. Try to take challenges once you get the concepts, and once the basics are cleared everything seems easy in the future. Nothing is difficult in Math it's just a wrong belief. Mathematics requires an ability to study in complete isolation without getting lonely and without getting discouraged or distracted. There is a self-esteem issue, when you read something and don't understand, you feel worthless and stupid, and these blows to the ego must be shrugged off, and you just try again. But why would anyone study it? It's because with mathematics, there is permanent and irreversible progress--it's been a long continuous punctuated revolution since long time ago. There is another aspect of mathematics that is difficult, and that is the poor pedagogy. You can't learn it well in school and maybe the teachers don't know anything about the field's roots. There are two types of people: those who are gifted but do not try, and those who are genuinely dumb but do not understand and do not try.” But math is important. The more math you know, the better you'll be equipped to handle a variety of situations in your professional and personal life. Society realizes this and requires that everyone studies math. And not just the easy parts - people are challenged to study a relatively high level of math, because of all its benefits. Math is boring to most people because it is complex, and because most people cannot handle abstract thought. “Mathematics may not teach us how to add love or minus hate. But it gives us every reason to hope that every problem has a solution”. --oOo-
