Is The Millenial Teacher The 21st Century TEACHER ?

The onset of the K to 12 curriculum in the Philippine Educational System has drawn a number of reactions from the teachers themselves , as well as from the parents and the K to 12 learners. But what exactly do we mean by a MILLENIAL TEACHER ?

Now, let me define first what a millennial teacher is ? A millenial teacher is a teacher who graduated from high school beginning in 2000 and has spent four years in college (muse.jhu. edu). In as far as we are all concerned, the millennial generation has really invaded our classrooms , for as sociologists have coined the word “millenials” for those Americans who were born after 1980 ( muse. Jhu. edu. ), thus, the Filipinos have followed suit.

Now, being a K to 12 teacher , I have had second thoughts of whether I could also be considered a 21st century teacher, since I am also a millennial teacher. The K to 12 era has truly began and that all teachers, whether in the pulic schools and private schools, and that with the trainings and with the powerful learning tools given them, and not to forget the 21st century technology, has given the millennial teachers the advantage to deliver the much needed knowledge to the 21st century learners.

The millennial teacher can really be considered the 21st century teacher as he/ she looks forward to the future. The millennial teachers , as the 21st century teachers, are aware of the changing trends in technology and they are very much aware of the opportunities that are in store for their learners in the future.

The millennial teachers, belong to the 21st century breed of educators who focus on education in preparing today’s children for the future of where they will live and where they will work (teachhub.com).

Millenials in the field of education are well equipped with the teaching strategies that will allow them to impart and transform the learners’education . They know what the best tools are and they know when to use them. More so, millennial teachers are effective in group or team collaboration. Being able to collaborate effectively in the workplace has allowed the millennial teachers to prove their worth since the implementation of the K to 12 in 2013.

Learning has become even more effective with the dawn of the millennial teachers as the 21st century teachers and fellow teachers, sharing their expertise and knowledge, and experience, communicating and learning from others , and finally being to reflect upon themselves has truly pave the way for the coming of the Filipino millennial teachers or the 21st century Filipino teachers !
