-

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO-- The “Kayanakan Kontra AMR (Antimicrobial Resistance)” project of the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) of San Nicolas 1 in Magalang, Pampanga got the accolade in the health category of the 2nd National Search for Outstanding SK Project Awards.

SK San Nicolas 1 Chairperson and current SK Federation Pampanga President Gabriel Moshe Lacson said the project is a youth-led and evidence-based community intervention which is aims to address AMR and improper use of antibiotics in the gr assr oot s.

The AMR study in barangay San Nicolas 1 was conducted by SK officials in partnership with Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health (ASMPH).

Launched in April 2021, the campaign is a call for awareness and action in the community especially among mothers in the barangay who are the primary caregivers of the youth and have inadequate and improper knowledge on antibiotics use and AMR. This translates to a significant prevalence of improper antibiotic selfmedication in the community.

“The main objective of the project is to proactively protect the community, especially the youth, from the grave consequences of AMR,” Lacson, who is also a medical student at ASMPH, furthered.

Out of the 273 SKs who expressed interest in joining the competition, only 23 entries emerged in the final shortlist wherein SK San Nicolas 1 was the lone entry of Pampanga and Central Luzon under the Health category.

Organized by Positive Youth Development Network and co-presented by Galing Pook Foundation, the 2ndNational Search for Outstanding SK Project Awards aims to showcase the most outstanding youth-led initiatives among SK councils in the Philippi nes.

It is a seal of excellence for SK councils committed to building a better world through local high-impact innovations focused on centers of participation of the Philippine Youth Development Plan namely health, education, economic empowerment, social inclusion and equity, peace-building and security, environment, and active citizenship and governance.
