IMPACT OF CORONA VIRUS ON EDUCATION
James Patrick F. Villamanca
Since its outbreak in late December 2019, COVID-19 has wreaked havoc across the world and like any critical sector, education has been hit hard. Students, schools, colleges and universities have been deeply impacted. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), over 800 million learners from around the world have been affected, 1 in 5 learners cannot attend school, 1 in 4 cannot attend higher education classes, and over 102 countries have ordered nationwide school closures while 11 have implemented localized school closure. This time of covid - 19 pandemic is indeed one of the most challenging learning circumstances of educational system has encountered. admittedly even in face to face learning some students were having difficulty in coping- up with their lesson, much more so with this situation. considering the fact that most the learners don’t have android phones, internet access, and some are living in a remote place. This pandemic really changed our life, in the economy, and especially in our education system, this school year 2020- 2021 give us a so called “new normal” set - up wherein the department of education provides us different kinds of modality. Since these modalities are new to us and also to our students, some of them are having their hard time in dealing with it, Hence, it resulted to a poor performance that is why constant follow - up and giving them other activities based on their level of understanding were needed to help them to understand the lesson better. Planning is very vital in education. it makes sure an institution’s success. it focuses on achieving objectives, goals, and vision. the DepEd ensures that the learning process will take place even we are still under pandemic. All the lessons are aligned with the MELCS. The covid - 19 has resulted in schools shut all across the world. As a result, education has changed dramatically, with the distinctive rise of e - learning, where most of the delivery of learning are undertaken on digital platforms. Integration of technology is very important in the learning process now a days, ICT integrations during this crisis is more applicable for easy access of learning. “Once acquired, Education is one thing that cannot be taken away from you.” This quotation always reminds me that education is incomparable to any precious gems. Having that in mind, no covid -19 pandemic must hinder the delivery of learning to our learners. This school year 2020 -2021 is remarkably challenging for the teachers, parents, and also for the students. However, the department of education did not compromise its vision. Learning continuity plan and LDM was conceptualize because of the current situation. In these trying times the role LDM course need. As a teacher in my time, I will fully utilize my full potential to inspire my students to do their best and work hand and hand for their brighter future. cliché it may sound, but the saying “If there’s a will there’s a way” perfectly fits our current situation.
