Beleaguered presidents

-

FIRST ON the list is our very own President Rodrigo Roa Duterte who is faced with the massive task of providing more than adequate vaccines to make the inoculation process comprehensive and successful.

As it is, the local government units (LGUs) had to momentarily stop the vaccination activity because of inadequate supply. The so-called herd immunity is still hard to attain because of this.

He had to address the corruption issues dragging the Department of Health which practices have been red-flagged by the Commission on Audit. He still trusts Secretary Duque despite insinuations of irregularities in his department and wants to keep him in office.

The President had to task the DILG and DSWD in the distribution of the ayuda package to ECQ-classified areas because he thinks the local government units cannot handle the distribution as effectively as the two agencies. He particularly zeroed in on the Manila LGU.

Next on the list is US President Joe Biden.

A Democrat, he is faced with stiff opposition from Republicans who try hard to throw away any piece of legislation Biden introduces. With apparent lack of bi-partisan support, Biden finds rough sailing for his proposed bills.

The big problem facing Biden is the illegal migrant entry into US territory. Thousands of them are at US borders, mainly in Texas. He previously assigned Vice President Kamala Harris to handle the migrant border crisis, but the problem still persists even though Harris loudly impleaded the illegal migrants: Do not come to America.

There is now the issue of American troops withdrawal from Afghanistan which caused its fall to the Taliban.

Last on the list is Afghan President Ashraf Ghani who fled his country at the height of the Taliban takeover of the capital Kabul and the presidential palace. His swift exit out of the country left his fellow Afghans clueless, helpless and defenseless. He reasoned out that he wanted to avoid bloodshed!

With authority comes a great responsibility. President Ghani ignored this saying and opted to save himself at the expense of his countrymen who now risk torture and death in the hands of the savage and brutal Taliban.

CNN news reports say, however, that the Taliban intends to let women and children, mostly girls, to pursue higher education and enjoy some freedom. No one is sure if they (the Taliban) would keep their word. Allahu Akbar.
