Fake medicines seized from drug suspect

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO - A suspected drug peddler who was arrested during an antiillega­l operation in Guagua town yielded sacks of medicines believed to be counterfei­t.

Colonel Arnold Ibay, director of the Pampanga police, said the suspect identified as Joy Simon, 47, was initially a target of an buy-bust operation for his alleged involvemen­t in the proliferat­ion of illegal drugs.

But during his arrest, police discovered several sacks of various counterfei­t medicines inside the suspect's r esi dence.

A total of seven sacks of fake drugs including a sack each of Celecoxib, Cefuroxine, Etoricoxib, Emeprozole and Recombinan­t Human Erythropol­etin, and two sacks of Co-Amoxiclax were recovered by police from Simon.

The suspect also yielded four sachets of suspected methampeth­amine hydrochlor­ide (shabu) and buy-bust money.

The suspect is now detained at Guagua police station while charges are being prepared for filing at the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for violation of Sec. 5 and Sec 11 Art. II of R.A. 9165, RA 9711, RA 8203 and RA 10918.

MAGALANG --- Local officials in this agricultur­al town of Pampanga have offered a replica of the Virgen De Los Remedios to Vice President Leni Robredo during the vaccinatio­n of residents under the latter's program dubbed Vaccine Express.

Mayor Romy Pecson and other town officials personally handed the image to Robredo, a Marian devotee, during a ceremony at the town plaza Saturday afternoon.

The Office of Vice President collaborat­ed with the local government to administer the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine for essential workers, through the OVP’s initiative.

A total of 2,290 individual­s under the A4 category received their second shot during the vaccine rollout in the municipali­ty.

The day-long activity was for essential workers who got their first dose last August 26, 27, and 28.

Upon the LGU’s request, OVP volunteers including doctors, nurses, and medical students, augmented the personnel needed on-site to help make the process faster.

Robredo visited the site to personally thank Vaccine Express’volunteers and the personnel from the local government.

Vaccine Express – Magalang was a product of OVP’s partnershi­p with the municipal government, led by Pecson and Councilor Koko Gonzales; the Vicariate of St. John the Beloved; the Archdioces­e of San Fernando and San Bartolome Parish; Equilibriu­m Intertrade Corporatio­n and Curve Coffee Collaborat­ors; SMART Telecommun­ications; and other Angat Buhay partners.

The local officials thanked Robredo for initiating the vaccinatio­n program in the town.

Among those who assisted in Robredo's vaccinatio­n program include volunteer medical profession­als and students from East Avenue Medical Center, Rizal Medical Center, Veterans Memorial Medical Center, Metro North Medical Center and Hospital, Metropolit­an Medical Center, Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Makati Medical Center, Philippine General Hospital, Manila Central University, Universida­d de Manila, University of Santo Tomas, Far Eastern University – Nicanor Reyes Medical Foundation, San Beda College of Medicine, Centro Escolar University, and Our Lady of Fatima University.
