Challenges in Using Technologies

Joel G. Manalo

-

“It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity”by Albert Einstein (Scientist ). The Covid-19 pandemic has given the whole world a better use of technology. Many people became sick, got hospitalized, and died due to Covid-19. It created limitations about going out of our homes. It changed peoples’ lives. People had to stay indoors by choice or by the order of the government. Hence, across the globe the spread of the disease has affected a vast region of the world and major sectors (airlines, tourism, marketing, service, small, and medium enterprises etc.) of the economy have been subjected to great challenges. But life must GO ON….

The pandemic has not only raised opportunities to advance technology-based solutions, but also provided a rare opportunity to study the research and practice of technology including information management, work practices and design, and the use of technology. The quick transition to telehealth, telework and online education in response to the coronavirus threat is a reminder that digital technology brings many benefits and can play an essential role in managing and reducing the risks caused by lockdown during the Pandemic. Human transactions now from banking, factories, medical procedures, churches our Sunday obligations, online-schooling, online business( onlineshopping’s) name it…. LAZADA, SHOOPEE, Play or games of our children, food delivery and all our basic necessities is being transacted by technologies… WE Are ALL IN … in the FADS…

But the very challenges we face is the amount of time we spend using electronic devices display images and data. All the activities like watching T.V. playing games to our gadget and using computers in our works. There is a dispute regarding the adverse effects of too much time in screen. There is a consensus among the members of the health and scientific communities regarding the need to limit screen time. Among the ill effects of increased screen time are those affecting the physiological, mental, social, emotional, cognitive, and psychological development of children and adults. In my opinion, I can foresee that if this situation we face today is not addressed properly; time will come when our future generations will have to wear eye glasses and will suffer from more worse effects than that.

One way to address this is to learn to discipline ourselves to limit the use of gadgets and be responsible in using these. Take time to bond with our children without using technology. Physical activities and communicating with them is crucial for their development. We must do it NOW.. BEFORE ITS TO LATE.
