Teddy Tumang's foresight

-

Mexico Mayor Teddy Tumang foresight on the pandemic is incredible as if he prepares the solution prior to the start of the problem. This was manifested when the Covid-19 pandemic started last year and he foresaw the arrival of vaccines from other countries through the national government then to local government units.

A couple of days ago, it was reported in this paper that he is hoping to achieve herd immunity for his town following the massive vaccinations being done in this fast developing town of Mejico, east of Pampanga. By figures, the inoculations being done are quite massive with the availability of various brands of vaccines being rolled-out.

One factor that is helping the town to have ample vaccines readily available is the storage equipment Mexico has. Going back to Tumang's foresight, the municipality has purchased two large medical freezers as soon as the national government started rolling-out vaccines. Because of these storages, the Provincial Government can easily store vaccines intended for the town. Among the municipalities in the province, only Mexico has these storage freezers just like the Provincial Government. These equipment are very vital and necessary since vaccines do need certain freezing temperature to maintain their quality and efficacy. This is no ordinary feat for the town.

Last year when we first experienced the intensity of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) or the massive lockdown enforced in the country, many economic activities were put to a halt. In fact, the going-out of our residences has been strictly regulated. Only those frontliners, medical or otherwise, were allowed to go out. A lot lost their jobs or their sources of livelihood.

Mayor Tumang, in response to the needs of his constituents who lost their means of living due to health measures enforced by the government, extended more than sufficient economic assistances including food packages and other home essentials. He was quick to attend to his cabalen's woes. His battlecry mentioned that no one in his town should go hungry because of the pandemic.

With the virus still extant, Tumang is now contemplating on various economic and livelihood activities for those workers displaced by the pandemic. His foresight, as always, should work and be applied to help his cabalens not only in the fight against Covid-19 but also in terms of bouncing back economical l y.

Last November 3, five-termer, former municipal councilor of Mexico Noel Sambile has met his Creator after battling his fight against a nagging ailment. Pareng Noel was a well-loved, long time serving local legislator of the town. He can be described as one with the masses, a down-to-earth soft-speaking guy who is a friend to anyone.

As a local lawmaker, he has prioritized agriculture in his agenda as he concerns food security for all. In person, he is jolly and easy to be with. This writer expresses deep sympathy and condolences to the family, relatives and friends of Pareng Noel. ***
