The Power of Three: The Foundation of Success In Education

REYMARK C. MANLAPAZ

-

According to the famous author Helen Keller, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much”. A quotation that reminds everyone that for us to be successful we must work together and don’t have to fight our battle alone.

In the field of education, most often students and teachers collaborate for the learning process to work well. But sadly, there are challenges for the learners that need the power of three: studentteacher -parent collaboration. As we know it and proven in our society, family is the foundation of every individual. Whatever values and discipline are being implemented at home, they will have a greater impact on the learners and how they behave in school.

A common scenario that I encounter as a class adviser during the parent-teacher conference is that parents are in disbelief when told about the performance of their child. Some are amazed at how good their children do in school since their children are usually quiet at home. Other parents are in denial upon learning that their child who is good at home reportedly misbehaves in school. I always remind the parents that whatever environment they have at home, the classroom is their place of comfort where they can express their feelings, thoughts, and even issues in their family.

It is hard for the students to push through in their studies when there is no support from their parents and teachers. That is why I would like to remind every parent and student that in the success of a learner, there should be a power of three: student-teacherparent collaboration. A Student must perform his duty by studying and submitting all school requirements. A Teacher must teach the learners and facilitate learning for the mastery of competencies that they need to acquire in every lesson. Last but certainly not the least, the Parent must monitor and support his child at home in every activity he does in school.

The support and collaboration will lead to the success of the learners considering that they won’t have to fight their battle alone. In their learning journey, their parents and teachers will always be their companions. There will always be someone around to comfort them when faced with failure or stumbling block. And there will always be somebody who will rejoice with them in every victory that God blesses them!
