WORK LIFE BALANCE

Nikko B. Manio

-

These days, because of the pandemic, I think our mindsets are gradually changing and our priorities are also shifting. The pandemic proves how short and fragile our life can be. If we took important things for granted like work life balance, will we be truly happy at the end of the day? After a lifetime of service, teachers are loved and revered in the society but would that ever matter if your personal life is in shatters?

It’s a tough row to hoe but achieving work life balance could not more emphasized in these trying times, especially in the lives of overworked, underappreciated and underpaid teachers. According to an article published by wgu.edu, here are some of the ways we to achieve work life balance:

1.Respect Your Time – Manage your time wisely and effectively. Allot time for work and for your own me time.

2.Recognize That You're Having an Impact (Even When It Doesn't Feel Like It) – Some of our efforts don’t always end up the way we wanted them to. But don’t worry and know that we are making a difference even though it doesn’t show immediately.

3.Shut Off the Electronics - It’s easy to overwork especially now that we have everything digitally ready. Have some time off your virtual classroom.

4.Know When to Say No – Teachers always have too much on their plate. not hurt to say no sometimes.

5.Prioritize Your Health – Our body are like plants, it needs proper care and nutrition to stay on its prime. Simple 15-minute walk or basic stretching with a healthy balances diet is a good start.

6.Do not Forget Your Friends Outside of School - Because teachers spend so much time with one another, they often socialize together, too—and that can be an important stress reliever. But don't forget your non-teacher friends. Schedule outings and dinner dates with people outside of the education field.

7.Let It Go- As teachers, it is easy to fixate on small things. But sometimes you just have to let it go. We do our best, but we must recognize that some things are out of our control. Take a deep breath and let it go.

Teaching is indeed highly fulfilling but we have our own lives to take care of, families to talk to, children to guide, aging parents to visit every once in a while. Let us wait until it is too late before we do something to improve the quality of your life. It may be difficult but not impossible.
