Simonians' creativity highlighted in town's 250th founding anniversary
SAN SIMON - The creativity of Simonians once again took the centerstage during the celebration of its 250th founding anniversary on Monday, November 15.
Several activities highlighting their artistry and creativity such as poster-making and creative wear contest were organized and participated in by residents of the 12 barangays here during the celebration.
"The 250 years is a very meaningful day kaya hindi namin pinalampas na i-celebrate at dito ginamit namin ang talento ng mga Simonians, lalo na ng kabataan para ipakita ang galing ng mga taga-San Simon," Acting Mayor Leonora Wong said, adding that all health protocols were observed during the celebration despite the town zero active Covid-19 cases.
The lady mayor said she aimed to cultivate further the talents of Simonians through such competitions, especially that the quarantine period has caused one's physical and mental activities to be dormant.
"Ngayong pandemic talagang naapektuhan even ang day-to-day activity ng bawat isa at dahil nga nasa bahay lang, iyong ibang talento natulog kaya ang gusto natin hindi lang gisingin, kundi palakasin at pagtibayin pa itong mga talentong ito," Wong said.
Meanwhile, Wong also lauded every Simonians for their contributions in making their town as progressive as today.
"250 years after, San Simon continue to take-off and transform. Under my leadership, we were able to bring our town's income to P150-million per year and will all equate to various programs that uplifts not only San Simon but including its people," she said.
If given a chance to lead the municipality anew, Wong said she dreams for a more progressive and thriving San Simon in the future.
"San Simon is in a good place right now but we are working for something better," she said.
