'Gulong ng Karunungan': A Game-CHANGEr Project
Jayson A. Torres
I could still remember the story of Efren Peñaflorida who was nominated for CNN Heroes by Club 8586 and was named CNN Hero of the Year for 2009 after being selected by CNN's Blue Ribbon Panel among the 9,000 nominees from over 100 countries because of his dedication and commitment to education, where he provided an alternative education to children on street gangs, recreating school settings in unconventional locations.
His triumph paved the way to an uplifting vision create a vast space for learning.
Considering the state of the children today solutions is always at the top of the line.
With that, as a principal, I want to emphasize the sole purpose of education this day: OF SERVICE TO OUR CHILDREN AND HUMANITY.
I want to put the heart of compassion and true service to the entire school community. Through this, children will have an opportunity to look for the brighter side of their dreams despite the pandemic.
This year, I, together with my compassionate teachers, have innovated the Project TES-"Gulong ng Karunungan", a mobile school project of Tacondo Elementary School, where I am stationed in. This project is made for children at risk in Barangay Margot, Angeles City, Pampanga, concerning their education.
It is set to roll out through a partnership initiative among the local government unit (LGU) of Barangay Margot, Angeles Eastern Children Center, Eastern Social Welfare Society (AECC), and the school for the School Year 2021-2022.
This project will also provide the learners of Tacondo Elementary School the vital materials to improve their academic performance such as school supplies, assorted reading materials in English and Filipino, Mathematics materials (drill cards, tangram, abacus, number builders, sudoku), and sports equipment (chess, scrabble, connect 4 grabs and go, sci-dama), and Instructional Materials (visual, realia, musical instruments tarpaulin, etc.).
The whole TES will join forces to provide a schedule to deliver alternately the stated materials for the holistic development of the learner. Also, to ensure the sustainability of the program, the children will be mainstreamed in the educational support that is being provided by internal and external stakeholders. Borrower's cards will also serve as a monitoring form of the school.
From this activity, the children will have a good learning experience and a new environment, while still waiting for face-to-face instruction. This project will provide an avenue for the whole school community to be united and create a positive space for humanity.
I am hoping that this project will go further. May this be a brand of change for the children of Tacondo Elementary School and the children of Margot community.
This may also inspire the children to look beyond their dreams and be the Penaflorida of their future someday.
