A REFLECTION FROM A STUDENT AND HER CATEGORICAL IMPERATIVE

-

According to Immanuel Kant, we must use reason and consider every human in our actions to determine that we are doing the right thing. Also, Categorical imperatives are the commands that we must follow despite what we want or what we desire. These categorical imperatives are said to be our moral obligations. We do good actions, not because of the desirable consequences that would satisfy us, but it is our duty to act in that manner.

It is through the intention or will that we determine the goodness of our actions. That will drive us to fulfill our duty to do good regardless of the circumstances. In short, learning this theory pertains to the execution of duties and how they could fulfill those irrespective of the outcome and determine what is right or wrong considering other people's good.

As we know, youth and students are the hope of our future and the building blocks in our society. Indeed, students play a vital role in our community. Also, students nowadays should not only be aware of their rights; it is also essential that they must keep in mind the duties and responsibilities that they must fulfill to contribute to this harmonized society.

Of course, every student must study; however, since students are at the stage where they are playful and vigorous, they tend to be lazy to strive for their education and probably not perform well academically.

They know prioritizing academics and performing well in class is the right thing to do, as this will help them be a functional citizen that could contribute to our society.

One of the significant duties of a student is to develop their character decently. We should consider having good manners and proper behavior is one of student’s obligations. In school, there are situations that students can't avoid.

They can have misunderstandings with their classmates and sometimes provoke each other. We encountered a similar problem and had a disagreement and conflict with a classmate.

Instead of letting their emotions control them, they chose to keep themselves calm so that they could avoid hurting each other. It would be wrong to hurt other people just to satisfy anger. Hence, regardless of the circumstances, we must conduct good actions that would do good to all of us.

We may have heard this repeatedly, but one of the students' biggest problems is cheating. As a student, they must deliver what they've learned without cheating. When you do cheat, you deceive yourself, your parents, your teachers, and God. Of course, having high grades would considerably bring you pleasure.

However, we must not forget that cheating is wrong as it is the same as disrespecting the people around God and us. It would be better to fail with a clean conscience and learn from that failure. Aside from what have mentioned, there are still various duties and responsibilities that students, should fulfill.

These are obligations that we must satisfy to have a better and harmonized society. The students or the youth are the hope of the future; they should not do actions that could destroy that hope.
