Homeschooling Popularized in the Philippines
Liza M. Lugtu
Since the offset of the pandemic, a lot of online platforms and learning delivery modalities emerged. One of the popularized ones is the homeschooling or homebased education for some. This is a method of learning where learners study lessons at their homes or in places outside the walls of a traditional classroom (Popular Homeschool Providers in the Philippines List, 2021). So how does it work? If a child can learn of his own, he can finish the job otherwise, the parent or the tutor will take over the job of teaching the child. Sometimes teachers monitor and connect with the students via webcam and other online networking sites. At times, the only time these students need to come to school is during a major exam. As far as lessons go in a homeschooling scenario, according to an online article, the lessons are aligned on the curriculum of homeschool providers accredited by the Department of Education in the Philippines under the Philippine Constitution. Why do parents choose this type of education? One main reason is to keep their children from negative school environment such as peer pressure and bullying. Another reason would be that the parents are away or working abroad. Also, an acceptable reason is that the child has special needs that a traditional school system will not be able to provide and that parents want to offer hands-on experience when it comes to teaching their child. No matter the circumstance is, every educational facility in the Philippines only aspire to have a bright future for the learners by offering them the best quality education.
