Looking through the Lens of Difficulties of Parents in Teaching their Children in Answering the Self Learning Modules (SLMS)
The new normal learning brought by the COVID-19 pandemic creates difficulty among Mama Nawa Elementary School parents. Most of them are parents working and unavailable during the daytime.
Some are incapable of teaching academic terms to their children, and others have a very unpleasant home environment that is disruptive to learni ng.
Despite the Department of Education's efforts to offer self-learning modalities such as modular distance learning, pupils may still be deprived of quality learning because some of their parents or guardians are unavailable or incapable of teaching them.
The quality of education through self-learning may be compromised due to these circumstances.
The present study attempts to explore the experiences of the parents on their children's learning at home through modular distance learning modality the new normal education.
This study involved parents from Mama Nawa Elementary School who enrolled their children for the school-year 2020-2021.
Qualitative research was employed to investigate the difficult experiences of modular learning modality through the lens of the parents and further draw conclusions from the findings of the study.
A final reflection emanating from parents was their comments that their child's accessibility and engagement increased due to the constant access to information of the Self-Learning Modules.
In addition, parent participants appreciated that kids continued learning even if face-to-face learning in school was canceled due to a pandemi c.
This situation leads to further thought about the structure of the traditional school day, seat time, and the school calendar year in the future. This thinking could lead to more blended learning classrooms.
It could also lead to the extinction of seat time, considering pupils can learn outside of the school's operating hours with teachers.
