Education must continue

-

When the Department of Education announced the early closure of the school year on March 17, 2020, everybody in the field was alarmed due to the massive increase of infection brought by COVID-19. The department instructed all schools to be closed and made some changes in their programs for the next school year under the new normal.

No face to face classes was strictly implemented for the next school year, Even teachers were informed not to report to school to avoid close contacts with the stakeholders and other people who come to school. Different learning delivery modalities were presented by the department to the regional and division level. Then the schools formulated their own Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan BE-LCOP which includes the types of the learning modalities which will be the presented to the Local Government Unit and let the community decide to what learning modality they will choose for their child.

During the school year, a lot of challenges were faced by the teachers, parents and also students. Teachers had to adjust on how to make their students learn in this pandemic. They have to embrace the new technology in order to teach their lessons and communicate with parents and students. Parents will do the monitoring and follow ups in the academic of their children. They have to spend more time in dealing with their children in answering the modules and monitoring them if they have online classes. Students have difficulties in learning the lesson especially in answering the activities in the self-learning modules. One of the most common problems of the students is the internet connection. The signal is not so stable for them to attend their online classes.

Despite all the challenges that we are facing right now, education must continue for the better future of the next generation.
