Coming together as a nation

-

we mark the 36th Anniversary of the Edsa Revolution or the People Power Revolution.

It was on this day that the Philippines, through the collective efforts of the Filipino people, ended the 20-year dictatorship of former President Ferdinand Marcos.

One of the lessons that can be taken out of the People Power Revolution is the coming together of Filipinos for the common good -- to end the dictatorship and restore democracy in the country.

Recently, it is good to know that Filipinos have rallied together to steadily push the country out of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a SunStar Philippines report on February 23, 2022, infectious disease specialist and government pandemic response consultant Dr. Rontgene Solante said the country has started to exit the Covid-19 pandemic as indicated in the continuous decrease in Covid-19 cases and the country’s ability to deal with severe and critical infections.

“Yes, I think we are in that process now, our mindset, hopefully, we can be exiting this pandemic, we can exit with this pandemic. Napakaimportante ng pagbaba ng kaso (The decline in cases is very important) because this is an important indicator na once we had na lower na ‘yung cases natin, we can deal with the virus, we know how to deal with it,” he said.

“And I think isa sa mga punto natin we also have available anti-viral agents that are appropriate against this infection we have oral and IV antivirals, our health care facilities are already equipped on how to deal with severe

Covid, so for me, we are better of prepared now compared to two or one year ago,” he added.

A total of 62,505,204 have also been fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 while over 61.9 individuals have received the first dose.

On top of vaccination, we can also say that the efforts of many Filipinos to follow minimum public health standards and get vaccinated against the Covid-19 is also bearing fruits.

But on top of coming together to end the pandemic, we are also at a time when we can truly practice our true power as Filipinos -- the power to vote.

The national elections is in three months. This is an important election because we will be deciding on who will be our President for the next six years.

Hence, when we practice this power of ours, we must also take into account all the things about the candidates -- What are their take on certain issues; what are their plans or platforms; what are their qualifications; what have they done previously, etc.

We should take the time to know the persons we are voting for through listening to their interviews, watching the political debates, and reading about them. It is through this that we are able to make an informed vote in the upcoming 2022 elections.

These are the times that we should come together as a nation for the common good -- ending the pandemic and voting the right person to be our leader. It is when we come together as Filipinos we are able to achieve great things. — Sunnex
