Emotional teaching, learning amid the pandemic
Ralph Alvin Navarro
The time of the pandemic has been an emotional roller coaster ride for all of us. We were thrown challenges one after the other, and this has taken its toll on everyone, including teachers and learners.
For the past two years, we made use of Filipino values in trying to overcome challenges in the midst of COVID-19 – and this has led to the discovery of the meaning of life, strengthening one’s faith that drives understanding of others, and exercising moral duty and solidarity to ensure the well-being of others in need.
In facing and overcoming trials, we should celebrate each one’s triumph and create an avenue to rejoice in our very own unique, genuine, and positive Filipino values that play an important role in bringing new hope.
We have become considerate and compassionate towards others during this time of the pandemic. We have learned to respect every individual, his ideas and fellowship, to achieve what is best for the common good of the country.
We each have our own little victories which we have sustained in revitalizing the practice of true caring for others. We witnessed how we treated each other with dignity, elevating the goodness of every person as an exercise of one’s faith.
The manifestation of perseverance opens an opportunity to transform one’s to cope and grow as a human amidst the crisis.
True enough, everyone has achieved victory over the pandemic – and this should be celebrated.
The Department of Education has played a big part in providing psychosocial support to both teachers and learners.
The Department has conducted a series of webinars which helped educators and students recognize and manage their emotions – especially that children were deprived of play and social interaction due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
These said webinars also leave parents, guardians, and teachers with important tips on how to help improve their child’s mental health.
