The Department of Health has reminded the public to follow safety guidelines in preparing food this dry season, to prevent food poisoning.

In a statement, the DOH said food gets easily spoiled because of the hot weather, so the public should always inspect any food or beverage that will be served, to ensure safety.

It has advised event organizers to observe food safety guidelines, especially now that big gatherings or events are taking place, pre-election.

These include wearing of food-grade gloves, hair net, mouth covers; hand and utensil washing or sterilization; use of fresh produce; and avoiding the mixing of cooked and uncooked products.

Food must also be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

For any symptoms such as stomach pains, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or fever after consumption of a meal, please consult the nearest clinic or hospital, the DOH said.

Meanwhile, the DOH assured the public yet again that it is on top of situation amid the reported dengue outbreak in some parts of the country.

The DOH said it is monitoring the situation and advised the public to clean up their surroundings to control dengue transmission, considering that dengue-carrying mosquitoes thrive on dirty areas and stagnant water.

To help dengue patients, the DOH has activated fast lanes in hospitals and prepositioned logistical needs of regional and local governments, including the chemicals used to prevent the spread of the mosquitoes.

Local government units have also been advised to implement the “4S strategy,” which refers to search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites; self-protection measures; seek early consultation of symptoms; and support spraying or fogging to prevent further outbreaks.
