PH-US relations, "going well"–ConGen Cato
CLARK FREEPORT – Consul General of the Philippines in New York, Elmer Cato, has described as positive the relations of the Philippines and United States of America
Cato issued the statement during the News at Hues, a media forum organized by the Pampanga Press Club at Park Inn by Radisson Clark here recently.
"The relationship is going well," he said. "As you’ve seen in the past week, when the President [Ferdinand Marcos, Jr.] was there in the United States, he met with President Biden on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly and they gave very positive statements on the state of relations between the Philippines and the United States," Cato added.
According to Cato, the Philippines really values the importance of the country’s alliance with the United States, as evidenced by PBBM’s statement that he wants the alliance to "remain st r on ger."
"We’ve always been friends to all and enemies to none. [We should look at it as whatever the position of the Philippine government would take, it would have to be to the best of its interest," the Consul General of the Philippines to New York said.
"The alliance between the Philippines and the
United States, the economic partnership, is very very important to further this relationship with them," he added.
Part of Cato’s work is economic diplomacy by promoting the Philippines as an investment, trade, and tourism destination.
As consul general, Cato oversees the consulate which is responsible for the welfare and interests of 450,000 Filipinos in 10 states in the United States, including Vermont, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
