THE INCLUSION OF MULTICULTURALISM AS A CORE COMPONENT OF CLASSROOM INSTRUCTION
MARY JANE S. SONZA
,t maNes sense that we, as a nation, are made up of people from a variety of ethnic and cultural bacNgrounds. They do have a distinctive literary style in addition to their culture. The integration of culture with the literature being examined in the classroom is another way to understand a particular group of peoples culture in the 3hilippines. The literary based approach to intercultural education is what it is Nnown as. ,n this manner, the culture of some ethnic groups in our nation would have the opportunity to be conceptuali]ed and shared with other )ilipinos in the form of a literary worN, such as a short story, biological bacNground, or written documentary piece, which would include their beliefs, style, tradition, way of life, education, religion, etc. :e )ilipinos might thus respect and benefit from each person s multicultural uniTueness. Teachers were able to design special exercises that were adapted to the needs of the learners because of the learners culturally diverse learning methods. $s learning facilitators, it is our responsibility to understand the cultural bacNgrounds, origins, and traditions of each learner. 2n that way, they would be able to connect their experiences and historical bacNground with some of the ethnic groups mentioned in the literature being studied in class. :e must be well informed and unafraid to bring up the class s cultural differences during the lesson. 'iscrimination might be eliminated via open dialogue, which would also foster cultural diversity and promote a positive learning atmosphere. (ncourage your students to sociali]e with people of different racial and socioeconomic bacNgrounds. They would be better able to appreciate the variety of other people through this Nind of engagement. Multiculturalism inside a )ilipino classroom would be an effective way to discover the inner parts of 3hilippine culture. ,t promotes the integration of other cultures by sharing others ideas and perspectives in a way that we should be responsible for the opinions we want to share. ,t is being sensitive and respectful of the other races identity and culture that maintains a fair and peaceful community.
