SVPSPC ADVOCATES FOR GENDER EQUALITY AND INCLUSIVE SOCIETY MERLIEN M. RAMIREZ
The San Vicente Pilot School for Philippine Craftsmen together with other government and private agencies celebrate yearly the National Women’s Month every March. This year’s National Women’s Month has a theme “WE (Women and Everyone) for gender equality and inclusive society”. The school believes and affirms on the big role of women who contributes so much in nation building and uplifting the lives of other people. SVPSPC teachers believe that women empowerment and gender equality is being realized in every work place. Nowadays, equal opportunity is being given to women, there are female teachers who teaches carpentry, welding, electrical installation and drafting wherein before these subjects are being taught only by male educators. Many of our female teachers head some committees and positions in the school because of their leadership and commitment towards their work. Thus, the society really accepts the fact that a lot of women are empowered and can lead the community they belong. In our school, we allow female students to enroll in our drafting and electrical installation and maintenance classes and likewise male students are allowed to take food trades subject and bread and pastry as a proof that we really practice gender equality in the school. As educators, we always remind our students to give respect to their classmates, that everyone’s voice or opinion must be heard. That every student regardless of their gender can contribute for a team or group to work. We should give importance and value the ideas imparted by our learners to us. The students can learn a lot from the teachings imparted by the teachers and thus the teachers/educators can also learn from ideas and life experiences of the learners. May all of us continue to respect the rights of women and girls, salute them in their contribution in our society. Happy National Women’s Month to all!
