Free EV charging up at SM SF Downtown
— The first electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the capital city was launched at the SM City San Fernando Downtown yesterday.
Motorists may now park, pop and plug their EVs while they shop with the EV 7.4kW chargers which supports Type 2 connector vehicles.
Andrea MadlangbayanRodriguez, SM Supermalls North 5 Assistant Vice President, said the opening of the electric vehicle charging station at selected SM malls is part of the company’s efforts to promote sustainability and environmental protection.
“We want to make these EV charging stations available for our customers who have made or are planning to make the similar choice of promoting eco-friendly innovations by shifting to EV,” she said.
Rodriguez added that the use of the EV charging station is free of charge, and is open from 10 AM to 9 PM at the mall’s Level 5 parking.
Julius Caesar Sicat, director of the Department of Science and Technology Central Luzon, lauded the initiative of SM Supermalls to support the programs promoted by the government.

EV charging stations will help the public better understand the importance and advantages of shifting to EVs. “Alam natin na ang mga tao madalas sa mall para mamili at kumain, at kapag nakita na welcome ang mga ganitong sasakyan sa mga ganitong establishment ay siguradong mas maeengganyo sila na subukan din ang mga electric vehicles,” he said.
The EV charging station at SM City San Fernando Downtown is the 40th one in SM malls all over the country.
SM Supermalls is the first mall chain to establish in-mall e-Vehicle charging sites in the Philippines.
The mall has created the PH’s biggest chain of e-Vehicle charging stations nationwide. By expanding infrastructure for EV owners, SM Supermalls stated that it is able to advance its Zero Emissions agenda, helping decrease carbon footprint while addressing air pollution concerns all over the country.
