Sinong first time sa Cebu?
ALEXANDER: I’ve been to the Philippines for a few times but I’ve never been here. Even when I eat dried mango, they will always talk about Cebu and I’m really happy that I’m finally now in Cebu.
HEART: And the first thing he ate was halohalo na may 5 stars. Everywhere he goes he rates all the halohalo with yellow hearts at dito yung favorite n’ya.
EDGAR: Hindi ko first time sa Cebu but first time ko ngayon sa Cebu bilang Kapuso.
HEART: I was just actually here I think two weeks ago. I also have a lot of friends here. Madalas ako actually nag-Ce-Cebu. Well, technically, for work din `cuz I buy a lot of my home stuff here.
How’s working for the first time in the Philippines?
ALEXANDER: I had a little culture shock at the beginning because everybody is so warm and very friendly. In Korea, we always have an hierarchy thing. It takes us a long time to break the ice. But for us, since day one (in My Korean Jagiya), they say “hi” and we always have fun. I think if there is one thing I really like about Philippine culture it’s the hospitality.
What about their acting?
ALEXANDER: Drama-wise, the Filipinos are more flexible. In Korea, everything should stick on the script, and we don’t have a waiting tent, instead we all stay inside our van. So, here it’s more fun `cuz we’re like camping together.
Why do you think My Korean Jagiya is a huge hit?
HEART: I think it’s because the mixture of two cultures: the Filipino and the Korean. It also helps that Filipinos love Koreans and the Korean novelas, and I’m lucky that we have a good chemistry. We got the right ingredients.
EDGAR: Isa rin, original siya `e, hindi siya remake. Ang writers talaga taga-GMA. ALEXANDER: I hope you guys can visit our set `cuz you would see how we always joke around, like the Bubble Gang kind of character.
Na-feel mo na ba ang changes as a Kapuso?
EDGAR: Opo, actually, this is my first time to be cast in a primetime. Dito lang ako nabigyan ng primetime show sa GMA. It’s my second show na parang pamilya na kami. Ang first sa kabila (ABS-CBN), pero doon parang matagal nag-build up yung samahan namin, dito kasi parang ilang tapings lang, in-accept nila ako agad as part of the family. Ako dati before si Heart, siya yung crush ko talaga. (wow, where that come from?—Heart). Hindi, kasi noong time na yun siya lang yung artista na chinita `e. Malakas ang dating sa akin… attracted kasi ako sa mga chinita. Kaya noong inoffer nila ito at siya pa yung kasama ko, it’s dream come true talaga.
What’s the secret of your staying power?
HEART: I don’t know. I didn’t expect talaga… but I think what it is, is that I really love my job, I really work hard and, you know, I’m very appreciative with every little thing I receive throughout the years.. I’ve been trying to fall out of love with what I’m doing for the longest time, kasi when you’re in showbiz it’s heartbreaking sometimes. Do you know what I mean? I’m not 5’9”, I’m not mestiza, I’m not a beauty queen.. what is special about me...
Kailan talaga yung plan n’yong magka-baby?
HEART: Sabi n’ya nga (Sen. Chiz Escudero), ano? Akala ko ba magka-baby na tayo? “Pero alam mo,” sabi niya, “go for it.” He’s so happy for us, like everyday he asks, “anong rating nyo? anong rating nyo kagabi?” He’s so supportive but I do plan, after this soap, I’m gonna give na that a chance.
Paano kung ma-extend ng ma-extend?
HEART: As long as we can keep going, then we will keep going. If people want us to stay, we’re gonna stay, because you know, you’re given a project that becomes like this.. ayy, my husband loves me so much, he will understand (laughs)… But whatever happens, after the soap, I really plan to take, like a year or two years off, to really try to have a baby.
