Latest scoops from luxe global home brands: Minotti, Gautier and Vispring

- WORDS MARITESS GARCIA-REYES

The premier Italian furniture brand Minotti has been creating top-notch pieces that embody classic elegance, unparalleled comfort and reliability since the 1950s. Fastforward to 1997, when the brand started its collaboration with the renowned Milanese architect and designer Rodolfo Dordoni. Since then, the partnership has consistently strengthened the brand’s image, collection after collection. This year, Minotti launched the Home Anthology collection (coordinated by Dordoni) at the 56th edition of the Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan.

Each year, the staging of a new collection demonstrates the company’s skill in innovating without sacrificing its own design ethos, which is superior craftsmanship. During the exhibition, the 2,000-square-metre Minotti stand portrayed the concept of a “home” and a way of living that evoked the brand’s signature style. Visitors were led to the well-appointed rooms that served as the backdrop to the Home Anthology collection.

With a classic-modern vibe, the versatile Lawrence seating system with horizontal lines and sleek shapes exemplifies refined taste. A quintessential expression of bespoke design, Lawrence takes inspiration from the infinite care that goes into making the finest leather goods. The exquisite stitching that embellishes the Lawrence seating systems is the product of highly skilled artisans.

The Lawrence “Clan” on the other hand, lends a fresher, more contemporary twist with its graphic stitching designs, and expresses a more dynamic and informal interpretation of the living room.

Also a marriage of classic and modern style is the Pollock seating system, which reincarnates the aesthetic values of the American artist after whom it was named, a company bestseller at the end of the ‘90s. The original high foot in metal with its distinctive design and the proportions of its shapes lend decorative appeal. It is a versatile sofa that can be dressed with fine fabric or leather exclusive to the Minotti collection.

Originating from a common design seed that transforms a vaguely retro style into a symbol of contemporary design, the Jacques collection includes sofas and ottomans in various sizes—all showcasing soft shapes, compact proportions and striking details.

The Minotti stand’s interiors at the Salone Internazionale del Mobile flowed seamlessly with the outdoor settings, a green oasis within the exhibit space, and a perfect foil to the new Florida seating system, alongside the Halley and Colette armchairs—all of which were part of the 2017 outdoor collection. With an attitude of sociability, the line echoes a tasteful, contemporary vibe created for cosy and laid-back al fresco settings. A clustering of soft, geometric shapes outlined in outdoor-friendly eco-leather piping and covered in water- and weather-resistant fibre and fabric, the Florida seating system allows multiple compositions to fit any outdoor space—whether on the roof deck or in the lanai.

Two visually striking armchairs designed for outdoors are also part of this year’s collection: the Colette and the Halley. The former comes in colours that add a spark of energy to the outdoor living space, while the latter radiates the visually striking design of the eponymous indoor variety.

As in the previous years, the launch of Minotti’s 2017 collection at this year’s Salone Internazionale del Mobile conveyed the brand’s design language— exploring the unexpected while keeping its own traditions.
