In recent years, more and more fashion houses have been launching capsule furniture collections and design exhibitions during Milan Design Week, but the endeavour of French brand Hermès into the home domain is in continuation with tradition. “We have a long history in furniture dating back to the 1920s,” says Hélène Dubrule, the managing director of Hermès Maison. The 2017/18 home collection, called Lien d’hermès, was launched at La Pelota in the city’s dynamic Brera Design District. The installation imparted a feeling of lightness—with the scenography extolling the virtues and warmth of the Mediterranean—and the pieces displayed a clear reference to the house’s equestrian roots. The brand continued its fruitful collaborations with notable figures, including Pritzker Prize-winning architect Álvaro Siza, who created the Karumi stool and bench, and design duo Barber & Osgerby, who were behind the sculptural Aes coffee table crafted from cast bronze. hermes.com
