Ludwig II was King of Bavaria from 1864 until his death in 1886. Known as a passionate castle builder with high debts, he is also described as a fairy-tale king. This wash set was made exclusively for the Neuschwanstein Castle. The exuberant colours and gold are reminiscent of grand liturgical objects from the middle ages and are testimony to the ostentatious

furnishings in Ludwig II’S castles.
