Design destinations and cultural sites to explore in this district
SHOP: LOFT
Designed by Schemata Architects, this store continues the meandering aspect of Ginza’s backstreets. A first-storey cafe invites visitors into a 35,520sqft store with timber, terrazzo, steel, resin shelving and 3D-printed furniture that gives the space an artistic quality.
SHOP: CIBONE CASE
Housed in the Ginza Six department store, Cibone Case is a condensed version of the expansive furniture and lifestyle store in Minamiaoyama. The selection of furniture and objects include Nousaka brass bells, graphic stationery from Beyond Object, Sarah Petherick utensils and exquisite chiselled cups by Akihiro Woodworks.
VISIT: TOKYO INTERNATIONAL FORUM
Designed by Us-based architect Rafael Viñoly, this landmark building is characterised by a soaring glass atrium with an intersecting steel roof truss that’s reminiscent of a ship’s hull. Beautifully lit at night, the venue plays host to performances and exhibitions, as well as weekend events at its open plaza.
