Model, professional host, WWF ambassador and entrepreneur, Marc Nelson is used to a life filled with events and travel. Find out what a transition to working from home has meant for him.

What has your transition to WFH been like since you typically are filming, travelling and attending many events for work? Have you been hosting from home? Could you share the changes and how you were able to adapt? What’s the routine?

Well, it’s been ... interesting. Although to be honest, the first few months were probably a welcome physical and mental respite from the constant travelling, and certainly brought about a new appreciation of my home (I so love my house and all its different areas). I’m sure my cats are super happy that I’m spending more time with them too.

I’ve hosted some events from home via Zoom, which presents a few challenges, most importantly the fact that you can’t read or feed off the energy of the crowd. That said, it is however nice to be able to work from the comfort of your own home, although I stream from my dining room which is dangerously close to the kitchen where all the yummy food people keep sending me is kept.

The routine and hosting equipment are a bit different as well. I usually use my iphone or ipad to stream, and have a collection of tripods, ring light, microphones, my ever trusty Sony headphones and just bought a pop filter and sound card as well. All these not just for hosting; I also do podcasting and the show I have with my buddy Rovilson Fernandez (@marcandrov).

All of this is set up on my dining table, together with a hot cup of tea and a glass of water. To be honest, it’s actually kind of fun.

What’s an item that you use and can’t live without while WFH?

Hands down it has to be my iphone11 Pro. The camera and sound quality is perfect for podcasting or streamed hosting. The ipad Pro is also great if I’m Zooming and need to see a lot of the people on the screen. Next would be a ring light (ring lights are life for any kind of streaming you do!) and a few different tripods and attachments for your phone and ipad. As for my favourite piece of furniture—my large dining table where I have plenty of room to set up my temporary studio in a matter of minutes.
