When entertaining at home, a good host should be relaxed and able to enjoy the meal as well even while making sure all of the guests’ senses are touched and that they are as satisfied.
All aspects are crucial—the dishes served to the drinks poured, the impeccable service, entertainment, ambience and the company.
I invite happy and positive people who I think will get along well with each other. I like having a vibrant and gregarious table so I seat my guests who are normally fun and lively all together for hilarious banter and animated discussions.
I draw inspiration from my travels and art, and conjure up themes based on these. For instance, I once hosted a romantic yet casual Aixen-provence-themed party inspired by the former capital of Provence, which is a two-hour train ride away from Paris. It was held in our pocket garden and I used floral tablecloths and fresh flowers in the colours that reminisce this part of France.
The key is to always make sure my guests are comfortable and well taken care of. They should feel at home so I avoid being stuffy and artificial at all costs.
