Long-time city dwellers often speak of how the urban skyline has changed over the decades. In the case of Makati’s bustling Central Business District, this has manifested in the way its famed skyline has evolved from the squat and functional Brutalist buildings of the Sixties and Seventies to the stately skyscrapers of the late Nineties and the fin de siècle, and today’s gracefully towering corporate and residential structures.

The latest addition to this dynamic landscape is a residential development that aims to give discerning urbanites a truly luxurious lifestyle in expertly designed surroundings that weave together a sophisticated 21st century aesthetic with innovative technologies. This is the promise offered by The Estate Makati.

“It’s not just a simple, smoothsided building,” says David Nelson, the development’s Head of Design. “It’s much more dynamic than that—it’s sculpted.”

The Estate Makati’s unique cruciform design is just one of the things that will set it apart from neighbouring structures and developments. As Nelson puts it, “On the skyline, it will be an interesting, unexpected image people will see. In [individual] apartments, [it offers] a series of experiences.”

Currently rising along Ayala Avenue, the main artery of the Makati CBD, The Estate Makati is characterised by a striking contrast: dynamic and vibrant on the outside, while being calm and serene within. Indeed, the structure’s lobby is gracefully sectioned into smaller secluded alcoves where residents can meet visitors, do vital transactions, or enjoy some personal quiet time.

Adding to the air of exclusivity and well-considered privacy is an elevated driveway concealed by welltended greenery where residents can have themselves dropped off and make their way to their homes via private lifts.

This transition from the chaos of the outside to the restful tranquillity within is one of the hallmarks setting The Estate Makati apart from other urban homes. “The mood shifts, the atmosphere changes—we try to use that: leaving a busy street, coming up to the entrance,” Nelson says of the experience.

Sustainability is also another factor that sets The Estate Makati apart. Water features built into strategic parts of the structure

are not just a relaxing decorative addition, but also a natural way of cooling and insulating the structure’s interiors. Likewise, provisions are also being made for hybrid or electric vehicles over in the parking zones: parking slots that double as charging stations help residents reduce their individual carbon footprints.

This inspired development is being made possible through a partnership between ST

6747 Resources Corporation (a joint venture between the SM Development Corporation and Federal Land Inc) and the awardwinning British architecture and design firm Foster + Partners.

Best known for its work on various projects for leading IT brand Apple and business media giant Bloomberg, as well as the striking headquarters for HSBC in Hong Kong, Foster + Partners has not only designed a magnificent gem of a building but is transforming it into a smart structure featuring innovations that will ensure the comfort and safety of residents over time.

Each apartment offers residents the luxury of space, characterised by using double-slab technology and panoramic bay windows that accord a modicum of privacy without compromising on breathtaking views of the landscape beyond. Eco-friendly materials allow for ample ambient lighting without letting in harmful UV rays, while everything from utilities, plumbing and wiring are hidden well away from view.

High above the sprawling metropolis, those fortunate enough to purchase a penthouse suite will be pleased at the tabula rasa nature of these spaces: a blank slate upon which they can express themselves through designs and layouts that will transform the units into truly personal homes.

More than just another city flat, The Estate Makati is a transformative experience built upon comfort, elegance and innovation.
