Pets are simply precious to be around. Aside from the promise of companionship, they give you reason to go outside, exercise, socialise—the package of a healthy lifestyle.

In return, you must nurture and care for them. For pets, such dogs or cats, are just like members of your family; and of course, you would want nothing but the best for them.

Just like children, these four-legged friends have different needs in different stages in life. Nutrition plays an important role in their development. If you are about to welcome a new pup or kitten into your home, you must prepare its living space, food requirements and other essentials.

Not all pet foods are the same. Royal Canin is a notch above the rest with its nutrient-based approach. Founded by the veterinarian Jean Cathary in 1968, the French pet nutrition manufacturer has been working on understanding the needs of cats and dogs vis-a-vis their health nutrition. From its studies for over 50 years, Royal Canin discovered that even the smallest nutritional difference could have a huge impact on a pet’s life and health. Which is why it offers tailored diets to meet the needs of cats and dogs of all sizes, lifestyles and breeds.

The brand’s range of dog food formulas supports the growth and development of puppies and grown-up canines. There’s even a first line of Birth and Growth formulations that provide precise nutrition from gestation to growth. Within a month from birth, puppies need to be gradually weaned from its mother’s milk in favour of solid foods. Royal Canin has a puppy food range that addresses their rapid growth, energy needs and immune function.

The tailor-made kibbles for Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, for instance, give immune system support, cardiac tone and help the digestive health of pups up to 10 months old. This diet contains a balance of fibres and highly digestible proteins that go well with their smaller digestive systems. Best to serve up to four meals a day in the weeks following weaning, and eventually transition to three meals before doing just two at mid-growth.

Once these pups go over ten months and reach maturity, shifting to a different range is recommended for their optimum growth. There are tailor-made kibbles for West Highland White Terrier adults, for instance, that improve coat health, help achieve healthy skin and satisfy fussy appetites. It is enriched with highly digestible proteins, with nutrient levels that adapt to their heart health, and have adequate calorie count, too.

Royal Canin designed the shape and structure of every kibble to meet the physical feeding needs of each canine, and even the mixed and designer breeds could get proper nutrition with the brand’s wide dietary range.

There’s a similar line for cats as well. The right combination of nutrients plays an integral part in the physical and social growth of kittens. It is vital to have a diet with the right balance of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. From birth to four months, kittens require a rich diet that is high in antioxidants to build their immunity.

Royal Canin’s kibbles for Maine Coon kittens, for example, are specially designed in cube shapes to fit to the size and texture of its large jaw. It has an exclusive formula of calcium and phosphorus and has a combination of highly digestible protein, adapted fibre content and prebiotics. This is ideal for kittens up to 15 months old. On the other hand, there’s a different line for adults over 15 months, which is enriched with nutrients for joint support and cardiac health.

With its wide selection top-of-the-line health products, Royal Canin has only but the best for your furry friend— may it be a cat or dog, big or small, mixed breed or not.
