Designer Ito Kish shares what makes his new collection unique yet so familiar to the Filipino crowd

Ito Kish is not only a decorator and designer, but a natural storyteller as seen in each of the pieces he creates and curates. Even after taking a sabbatical leave for two years, Kish effortlessly returns to what he does best, crafting and selecting unique designs that hold memories of the designer’s experiences.

What’s the inspiration behind your new collection?

Our new collection draws inspiration from cities that celebrate life—beginning with a neighbourhood of Tokyo, Japan. I’ve personally curated a tight selection of vintage items from personal trips to the Japanese capital.

Which piece would you think is versatile enough to place in any part of the home?

The Gregoria accent chair is very versatile. It is a statement piece.

Why do you think the pillars seen on the Gregoria chair have become so iconic even years after?

Because we identify with it. It is part of our culture and tradition. To some, it is a very familiar architectural detail of our ancestral homes.

Which piece is your favourite out of all?

It will be the Gregoria, of course, as it was named after my mother.

What’s next for Ito Kish?

We are expanding our space, in time for its opening early next year.
