Tatler Philippines

The New Establishment

-

here’s a slow seismic shift in society that a lot may not be aware of. The Grand Dames have retired and a new set is about to lay claim to their throne. In the world of business, just check out the richest men in the country and they are definitely not the same in the last 20 years. In the ‘IT’ girl scene, those who were in the society’s eye for a long time have gotten married, started a family, and have made that their priority.

In this light we introduce to you Generation T, an annual initiative to watch out for, a mission spearheaded by Asia Tatler and has been its big project for this year. In it we introduce to you the new movers and shakers, the innovators and the influencers. In this issue, you will find an accompanying supplement of 100 individuals (below age 40) who are about to impact our world pretty soon. They are already making waves, but their full potential is yet to be seen.

Still focused on the new, we complement Gen T with our feature on Cebu’s New Guards, as well as the new crop of stylish women to set your eyes on.

For the cover, we flew to Cebu to feature a lady whom we have been inviting to grace our magazine for quite some time. When she said “yes,” we knew it was certainly worth the wait! We photographed the lovely, elegant, and vibrant Mary Anne AboitizArculli at her beautiful home (with a couple of shots with her husband, Derek) and talked to her about her move from Hong Kong, her family, and what she is most excited about in the coming future.

We would like to thank in-demand and über talented fashion designer, Cary Santiago, who helped facilitate the shoot. Get a glimpse of his amazing designs on Mary Anne in her feature, “In Full Circle” (page 240).

As this is our big fashion issue, we give you the international runway collections for men and women from Paris, Milan, London, and New York; an interview with super male model David Gandy; a story on pearls; and two fantastic fashion editorials—the first from NY-based photographer Steven Patenaude; the other, an ode to Mick Jagger titled, “Like a Rolling Stone.”

Next month, we have a double whammy: we fly off to Europe for another exclusive on an illustrious and powerful Italian fashion family and, at the same time, celebrate our 15th year via the much awaited Philippine Tatler Ball. This year’s beneficiary is the breast cancer centre of the Cancer Institute of the Philippine General Hospital (PGH). It is our hope that our friends and readers will support this initiative, as well as celebrate with us the 15th milestone in this magazine’s history.
