Tatler Philippines

Editor’s Note

As I write this, I have just returned from a 17-day CCF (Christ Commission Fellowship) Bible Study Tour that took me through Egypt, Israel, and Jordan. It was one of the most tiring yet eye-opening and inspiring trips I have ever been on.

In a nutshell: I climbed Mount Sinai (a four-hour ascent and two-hour descent); got baptised in the Jordan River; walked where Jesus walked; saw the Promised Land; and ate a lot of hummus. If you have read the Bible, being able to see all those places in person makes it more real and even a little surreal. The experiences that had the most profound effect on me were taking a boat ride on the Sea of Galillee, seeing where Solomon’s Temple once stood (an area now occupied by a mosque, the Dome of the Rock), and entering the tomb of Christ in the garden, all of which are located in Jerusalem.

I learnt many lessons on this trip, but one that rings truest is to trust in God in everything. It’s difficult, but rewarding and beneficial as well. I’ll be writing more about my sojourn in the Holy Land in our first-ever Travel Issue next month.

For now, we welcome back one of our favourite cover ladies, KC Concepcion, who first graced our cover 10 years ago in February 2008. I was able to catch up with her at the Omega event in Amanpulo. There, we spoke about her current state of affairs: a tell-all book that came out and her break-up, among other things. But she also had good news, as she excitedly told me about Avec Moi by Kristina, her own jewellery collection, which has currently sold out. In our cover story “On Her Own Merits,” we see the beautiful KC as a wiser woman who, like everyone else, has gone through so much but has still managed to come out on top. Believe me, KC: it only gets better from here on out.

As we hail Asia’s most powerful women this month (including 25 notable Filipinas), we have an article on the current movement for women’s rights and gender equality that has been much talked about. Also in this month’s issue is a compelling story about a major retrospective on Mexican artist and feminist icon Frida Kahlo at London's V&A Museum; a whirlwind tour of Moscow by way of Tatler Russia's social editor Masha Limonova; and a piece on the Philippine Educational Theatre Association (PETA), which is now on its 51st year.

As mentioned earlier, we’ll see you in our July Travel Issue where we make our way to an exciting destination.
