Tatler Philippines

Editor’s Note

- ANTON SAN DIEGO EditorinChief

This is our last issue of 2019. As I look back on the year that was, I see the myriad of changes that we—the magazine and I—went through. Marking 18 years as editor-in-chief is a feat in itself, but to get to this point, one has to “know the ropes”— and it did not come easy. I have learnt so much from the peaks and valleys I’ve encountered over the years, and I look forward to where circumstances will take me next. There will be a lot of changes coming up, and I am grateful for all that such will bring !

This month is dedicated to philanthropy— which is but fitting for this season of giving. Get to know seven young men and women, all under 40, who have made it their life’s calling to help others. From a broader perspective, take a look at the state of philanthropy in the region with Ruth Shapiro, the founder and CEO of Centre for Asian Philanthropy and Society.

The cover lady needs no introduction. Nanette Medved-Po has brilliantly addressed both the plastic menace and the dearth of classrooms, an initiative for which she has been globally recognised. Internationally-acclaimed photographer Xyza Cruz Bacani went behind the lens for the shoot in General Santos City.

How can Christmas be celebrated without holiday-related stories? The Teos, Prietos, and Huangs open their homes and share their family traditions and wishes. We also have 20 page Tatler gift guide dedicated to the fashionistas out there.

Outside the philanthropy sphere, we have a story on how British interior designer Louise Bradley found and furnished her dream home. Take a peek at the Chat eau de Saran, Moët et Chandon’s by-invite-only hotel, through the eyes of Asia Tatler Chief Brand Officer Sean Fitzpatrick. We have exclusive interviews with two hunks: football legend David Beckham and award-winning film and Broadway star Hugh Jackman.

One a side note, I am writing this from Greece (my first ever visit), on a tour that traces the Steps of Saint Paul. I marvel at how he led his life: committed to spread the gospel, spurred by his love of God. Watch out for the article in our ‘Travel Issue’ in February 2020.

With the frenzy of the holidays, may you take time out to take stock of what is truly important. Make the most of the holidays and embrace the coming year with great anticipation and faith; know that things happen for a reason and that all will turn out well. On behalf of the Philippine Tatler team, I wish you the merriest Christmas and a New Year filled with love, joy, and endless possibilities. See you in 2020!
