Divine Details
THE BARRERA-JUBAN WEDDING IN AUSTRALIA
Every detail of their wedding was a meaningful one for Michelle Cojuangco Barrera and Stefano Juban. Both avid horseback riders who met through friends at the chukker of Manila Polo Club, the couple chose an outdoor venue for the reception: the Deckhouse restaurant in Woolwich, NSW, after the ceremony held at St Joseph’s Chapel, Hunter’s Hill.
The availability of the venues and the date were answered prayers, according to Michelle. The tables were named after horses that made a mark on their lives.
Sponsors and guests were selected carefully; the godparents were handpicked for the guidance and support they have given to the couple. Favourite teachers, childhood friends, coaches, and the closest relatives were present. Michelle walked down the aisle to a song she recorded.
Giveaways had their reasons: gravy boats for pouring a little of the love from this special day, paperweights as reminders that life should not need to weigh one down, shawls to “have and to hold in case you get cold,” and wines from the family farm including a special wedding reserve. The bride wore something old, something borrowed, something blue, and a sixpence in her shoe. Everything went by design; and the fact that it took only five months to plan the wedding, divine intervention must have played a great part as well.
