Enchantment in Every Sip

Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte exemplifies the savoir- faire and inimitable house style defined by precision, elegance, and finesse

- BY FRANZ SORILLA IV

Being born into a family of wine and spirit negociants, Nicolas Feuillatte is primed for success. Even at the golden age of 50, he refuses to rest on his laurels and just introduced to the world his eponymous Champagne brand. What began as a limited production exclusively for Feuillatte’s high-brow American friends—the Kennedys and Aristotle Onassis— evolved into what it is today, with thanks to Henri Macquart.

Macquart was the charismatic and devoted president of the Growers’ Union in Champagne, France. In the early ’70s, he had the idea to create the Centre Vinicole Champagne, which he launched together with a handful of cooperative growers. The Centre Vinicole Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte, the youngest of the major Champagne houses and the leading growers’ Champagne brand, was created when these two men joined together.

Due to this collaboration between the intuitive entrepreneur and the daring winemaker, and assistance from all the dedicated growers and blenders in the original 12-hectare property, Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte grew to a sprawling 2,000-hectare estate. Now known to the world as France’s best-selling champagne brand, it has become a global sensation, generously served in leading hotels and restaurants worldwide. Each bottle reveals its character with the freedom and audacity of its forefathers, telling the beautiful story of how these two men risked everything to create a brand that defines excellence.

The light, floral, and fruity aromas of chardonnay, pinot noir’s structure and masculinity, and the luscious zesty notes of meunier are credited for Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte’s distinctive character. Its unique style is defined by precision, elegance, and finesse, as well as the grandness of the terroir of each vineyard across the region, making this particular brand a favourite choice in celebrations and dinners.

With this, more than 10 million bottles of Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte leave its winery in Chouilly annually. However, the company believes that champagne is not just for opulent parties but also for every moment where everyone may enjoy life’s precious milestones. Enchantment awaits everyone with every sip of the indulgent bubbly, from the appetising Brut to the prestigious Palmes d’Or blends. Each underscores the brand’s relationship with its committed partner-growers and customers.

Perhaps the most iconic and outstanding among its ranges is the Réserve Exclusive Brut, which perfectly

encapsulates the brand’s house style. It is a harmonious blend of 20 per cent chardonnay for elegance and finesse, 40 per cent pinot noir for roundness and structure, and 40 per cent meunier for fruitiness and soft, supple character. Representing the entire Champagne appellation, every inch of the region comes together to reveal a glorious showcase: light, fresh, and vibrant Champagne, effusing intense, expressive fruit, while extensive cellar-ageing brings appealing maturity to perfect style and consistency. Aromas of juicy pear and crunchy apricot merge and weave in a beguiling fusion around a mass of delicate bubbles, gradually unleashing their true character over time. Simple in its complexity, refreshing and impulsive, it is fabulously versatile with wildly contrasting flavours, and the ideal partner to pre-dinner nibbles.

It pairs well with dishes like smoked salmon toast or 18-month Beaufort cheese, a relaxing interlude after a serving of marinated chicken and spring vegetable wrap or a rhubarb tarte tatin, as well as an excellent accompaniment for sauteed king prawn and coriander, fish and coconut milk parcel, or a sea bass sashimi.

As Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte celebrates four decades of impeccable winemaking, it continues to strive for excellence and success through the guidance of its current chief winemaker, Guillaume Roffiaen. A dedicated food lover with global culinary culture as an infinite source of inspiration, Roffiaen is a talented, intuitive soul. He clearly emphasises that Champagne is an opportunity for its makers to allow the splendour of this region to truly shine. In his view, the greatest successes are founded on human relationships. Beyond its cultural significance, to Roffiaen, Champagne is the essence of conviviality. “Champagne is an important part of all our lives,” Roffiaen said. “It is shared and appreciated. It is the finest evocation of life and exchange. Far beyond any social conventions, it symbolises freedom, one bubble at a time.” Meanwhile, Christophe Juarez leads Centre Vinicole Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte as director general, in the heart of the prestigious Côte des Blancs vineyards, listed on World Heritage.

Champagne Nicolas Feuillatte Réserve Exclusive Brut is exclusively distributed locally by AWC Philippines Inc.
