Richard Mille’s most complicated creation to date exudes functionality and luxury suited to travellers and jetsetters
The new Richard Mille creation exudes luxury and functionality
“A vibrating alarm simply did not exist, so there was a long phase of experimentation” — Salvador Arbona
The second iteration of Richard Mille and Airbus Corporate Jets (ACJ) just announced itself in time with great technological advancements in horology. A top-notch watch debuting its newest complication, the RM 62-01 Tourbillon Vibrating Alarm ACJ is perfect for travellers and frequent flyers. It is, to date, the most complicated timepiece Richard Mille has ever created.
A collaboration between aviation and horology, Richard Mille and Airbus Corporate Jets’ latest creation, the RM 62-01 complication, succeeds the RM 50-02 ACJ Tourbillon Split Seconds Chronograph, the first partnership between the two companies back in 2016.
The extreme functionality of the RM 62-01 Tourbillon Vibrating Alarm ACJ suits business travellers. Limited to 30 pieces in titanium and carbon, the timepiece exhibits technology unlike any other with its oversized date, AM/ PM indicator, UTC indicator, function selector, 70-hour power reserve and an alarm that vibrates and functions with an on/off indicator.
Its special feature, the alarm, a first for Richard Mille, is rather silent in contrast to traditional alarms that gong and chime; only the wearer can perceive the vibration of the watch, which lasts a maximum of 12 seconds. Simply pressing the pusher 12 times suffices to charge the power reserve fully and set the RM62-01 alarm. It also has a double bezel— one polished and satin-finished in grade 5 titanium, and the other shaped like an airline window machined from carbon TPT in 1.8mm thickness. It sports a sapphire dial with anti-glaring on both sides, Arabic numerals, and a rubber strap. The RM 62-01 Tourbillon Vibrating Alarm ACJ shows off its free-sprung balance with variable inertia, which oscillates at 3Hz, and titanium and carbon pairing, which provides an optimal weight to the timepiece.
A manual winding tourbillon, the RM 62-01 is also the first watch to boast a function selector that can adjust between five different settings. The watch, with its intricate and elaborate design, is inspired by a dark wood panelling from a bespoke cabin interior designed by Sylvain Mariat, Head of ACJ Creative Designs. According to
Richard Mille’s Technical Director for Movements Salvador Arbona, “These timepieces designed to take us into entirely new territory require mechanisms that entail many years of development. A vibrating alarm simply did not exist, so there was a long phase of experimentation.”
With aviation as his latest iteration’s sole inspiration, Richard Mille expands the field of horology and invention, exemplifying philosophy and eye for creativity—taking functionality and performance to new acmes of innovation.
The RM 62-01 Tourbillon Vibrating Alarm ACJ is available exclusively at Richard Mille boutiques worldwide and retails for CHF 1.2 million.
