GENERAL SANTOS
More popularly known as “GenSan”, this southernmost city of Mindanao is dubbed as the “Tuna Capital of the Philippines” for being the largest producer of sashimi-grade tuna in the country. Its main fish port along Saranggani Bay is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities that comply with international standards on fish handling. The fishing industry in GenSan yields an average daily capacity of 750 metric tons of fish catch, which provides jobs to about 8,000 local workers. Formerly known as Dadiangas, this city geographically located within the province of South Cotabato, was named after General Paulino Santos, a former commanding general of the Philippine Army.
