One More Month

High school life is probably one of the best and most memorable experiences people will have in their lifetime. Each graduating class has its own challenges and triumphs, but the Class of 2021 had an unparalleled one. To do classes from home for one whole year is unprecedented. So, to feel the optimism about the present and the future of our featured 12 graduates in their story The Class of 2021 is heart-warming and infectious. We wish these 12, and all the graduating students, all the best; they have gone through one of the toughest hurdles of their generation and will certainly be better for it.

As you can tell, this month’s issue is dedicated to youth and education. Of interest is the article Sneaker Fever, on the Filipinos’ obsession with high-priced kicks. On the dark side, we delve into one of the perils of the internet, cyberbullying, and what one can do to safeguard one’s security and sanity. And what better way to understand this generation than by familiarising ourselves with their lingo as well as beliefs. Check our article, Youthspeak to guide you in conversing with them, as well as find out who their current heroes are.

Our cover stars are the handsome couple Ben Wintle and Iza Calzado wearing exquisite clothes by Louis Vuitton, shot on location at the Palacio De Memoria on Roxas Boulevard. We had a fun afternoon with these two. Iza’s beauty and kindness were mesmerising; Ben’s British candour and humour, refreshing. Here’s a sample. “Does anyone read the magazine, or do they just look at the photos?”

To which I answered with a laugh, “Let’s cut the interview.” Seriously, let me assure Ben that our readers will enjoy the beautiful photos taken by the one and only Mark Nicdao, and read the story too.

We also start a business column with some of the best economic minds of the country, starting off with Nina Aguas, a top manager in the insurance industry, on the topic The Post-Pandemic Office.

We then head to one of the most beautiful and exciting cities in the world, Havana, through the eyes of publishing house Assouline.

Lastly, we pay tribute to President Noynoy Aquino, or properly known as PNoy. He represented decency, statesmanship, integrity and resiliency. Thank you, Mr President for your passion for the country and to its people. Well done, Sir.

Next month is our 20th anniversary issue. Can’t wait to unveil this special issue to you!
