Husband-and-wife team Anita and Bittu Kaushal made a pilgrimage to India, where they were inspired by the healing power of the country’s holistic traditions. They went on to study Ayurvedic health and founded Mauli Rituals, which creates “all-natural and organic sensorial blends inspired by science-led Ayurvedic principles and a sense of British refinement”.
HOURGLASS COSMETICS
Proving luxury and sustainability can indeed go hand-in-hand, cruelty-free make-up and eco-friendly packaging solutions have played a starring role in Hourglass Cosmetics’ brand identity since it was founded in 2004. As of 2021, the brand is 100 per cent vegan.
RAHUA
New York hairstylist Fabian Lliguin collaborated with indigenous groups in the Amazon to develop this organic, vegan line of hair care products. The brand is named after rahua, a nut oil used by the Quechua and Shuar peoples to maintain healthy, glossy hair.
AESOP
It has never advertised itself as such, but Melbournebased Aesop has been dedicated to being vegan and cruelty-free since it was founded more than 30 years ago, quietly and confidently paving the way for brands that followed.

Founded by biochemist and skincare formulator Christal Leung, this independent Hong Kong brand’s vegan, California-made products address skin challenges often faced in Asia, such as humidity and pollution.
