The Guest List
FRANCISCO “PACO” GUERRERO
One can easily spot a photograph taken by this prolific lensman. Whether its travel, editorial or documentaries, in full colour or in black and white, all his shots have two things in common: depth and drama. This month on our cover, the legendary photographer and director captures Roland Ros, the visionary man behind Kumu, a social entertainment platform that advocates positivity and inclusivity. (p. 138)
LISA GUERRERO NAKPIL
Economist, editor, curator and author, Lisa Guerrero Nakpil can tell a good story—and as a public historian and also the first female member of the National Historical Commission in several years, she can ensure that we remember it. She is also absorbed with all things 19th century as well as mid-century modern, both golden ages of art, writing and living in the Philippines. In this issue, she shares an excerpt of the book, Fifty
Years and Forward, which summarises how Makati became the country’s financial capital. (p. 130)
ADRIAN PANADERO
An illustrator, graphic designer and writer, this University of the Philippines fine arts alumnus has won the prestigious PBBY Alcala Prize in 2019. This annual award for outstanding children’s book illustrators is given in honour of the National Artist for Visual Arts, Larry Alcala. He enjoys reading, thinking, and illustrating about Philippine history and culture. In this issue, he created a graphic representation of Santacruzan (p. 180).
SIMON LIPMAN
The works of this Londonbased photographer who is behind this month’s fashion shoot take inspiration from documentaries, and he often crafts scenes and scenarios from real life. “Having previously shot at the [equestrian art school] Real Escuela for a personal project, I’ve wanted to go back and shoot a fashion story for some time,” he says of this shoot, adding: “I feel like there is an echo of the glamour of [American photographer] Slim Aarons in the project.” (p. 92)
