The Guest List
FERNANDO MANSO
The master and noted photographer visualises all the beauty hidden in the depth of ordinary things. An observer more than a spectator, he studies light like how a scientist would analyse living matter. Captured by his plate camera are images that echo what his eyes dream, and instantly transformed into reality. In this issue, he shares yet another visual feast in Taking the Spotlight (p.114).
JOHN L SILVA
The Ortigas Foundation Library executive director gives a glimpse of People and Places: A Cordillera Legacy, an exhibition that showcased 100 rare images of the Cordilleras—from Abra, Kalinga-Apayao, Bontoc, Ifugao and Benguet—taken from 1900 to 1925. Silva is a seasoned writer with speciality on history and the arts, a fairly extensive Filipiniana collection for public research.
BJ PASCUAL
Having shot over hundreds of magazine covers and countless brand campaigns, Los Angelesborn Filipino photographer BJ Pascual has cemented his name in the Manila fashion scene. Today, he remains one of the Philippines’ most soughtafter photographers and social media sensations. He photographs the transgender car-racer Angie King and his wife Joey for this month’s cover.
JACOB MAENTZ
This Cebu-based American documentary photographer explores the interplay of the natural world, culture and identity, and for more than a decade has collaborated with various indigenous communities and groups who have been historically marginalised in the Philippines. In this issue, the 2021 Leica Oskar Barnack award nominee shares snapshots from his recently published photobook titled, Homelands, which explores indigeneity and the relationships between place and people (p. 134).
