An observer more than a spectator, he studies light like how a scientist would analyse living matter. Captured by his plate camera are images that echo what his eyes dream, and instantly transforme­d into reality. In this issue, he shares yet another visual feast in Taking the Spotlight (p.114).

JOHN L SILVA

The Ortigas Foundation Library executive director gives a glimpse of People and Places: A Cordillera Legacy, an exhibition that showcased 100 rare images of the Cordillera­s—from Abra, Kalinga-Apayao, Bontoc, Ifugao and Benguet—taken from 1900 to 1925. Silva is a seasoned writer with speciality on history and the arts, a fairly extensive Filipinian­a collection for public research.

Having shot over hundreds of magazine covers and countless brand campaigns, Los Angelesbor­n Filipino photograph­er BJ Pascual has cemented his name in the Manila fashion scene. Today, he remains one of the Philippine­s’ most soughtafte­r photograph­ers and social media sensations. He photograph­s the transgende­r car-racer Angie King and his wife Joey for this month’s cover.

JACOB MAENTZ

This Cebu-based American documentar­y photograph­er explores the interplay of the natural world, culture and identity, and for more than a decade has collaborat­ed with various indigenous communitie­s and groups who have been historical­ly marginalis­ed in the Philippine­s. In this issue, the 2021 Leica Oskar Barnack award nominee shares snapshots from his recently published photobook titled, Homelands, which explores indigeneit­y and the relationsh­ips between place and people (p. 134).
