Celine Bernaerts, global make-up expert for Dolce&Gabbana Beauty, shares how the art of devotion is reflected in her craft and the luxury house’s latest masterworks
In the hands of an artist, make-up is a powerful medium. The skin becomes a canvas upon which every brush stroke and blend of colour speak of skill, passion and emotion, conveying a tale of nearsacred devotion. The work of professional make-up artist and content creator Celine Bernaerts bears testament to this.
“Devotion, to me, is transformation,” she remarks. “By devoting yourself to your craft of choice, you can be transformed into someone new and improved. On the other hand, it equals love to the fullest extent.” Her definition aligns with that of Italian fashion house Dolce&Gabbana, whose carefully curated, new beauty selection is a tribute to timeless beauty. Bernaerts recommends sticking to the classics but adds that this term tends to differ for everyone. “A lined lashline, for example, can be done with liquid eyeliner and applied very neatly, but if it doesn’t suit your eye shape, you can grab a black gel pencil or eyeshadow to create a striking gaze,” she offers as a professional tip. Adding that the Devotion liquid mousse lipstick in red is her favourite from the new lineup, she says, “There is something that a red lip can do for your confidence that is incomparable to anything else. It’s the equivalent of power dressing but for beauty.”
Referencing the beauty of individuality once more, she shares a tip for applying such a lip colour in two ways, letting individuals choose the style that suits them best: “Either apply it straight from the applicator for an opaque look or dab it across the inner part of the lip [to create a] gradient outwards—both can be so beautiful.”
