Targeting success
THERE are two kinds of people: Those who do nothing “because there are no resources” and those who look for resources when they don’t find any. The latter also makes much use of what is available: Time, talent, opportunity, money… so this group ends up having enough.
How much resource do you have, and how do you use it to achieve what you want in life? Whether you’re a student, a parent, a young employee, or an entrepreneur, you will ultimately attract what you see in your mind. Yes, success begins in the mind.
It is what drives people with very limited resources to continue struggling for a bigger goal. They know that their sacrifices are temporary, and that if they will give up, their present condition might just be their destiny.
I remember students from other classes borrowing calculators from our section (this was in high school). Even young students know how to meet specific needs.
No transportation or food allowance? One woman shared that when she was a student with meager allowance, she had to skip eating during snack time in order to afford a jeepney ride, and had to walk on her way home if she chose to eat. Her name? Cristina Decena, now a successful businesswoman.
No budget for tuition and other fees? Countless students have resorted to working parttime to save enough money for their education. And, of course, resourceful and qualified individuals enjoy scholarship grants from different institutions, subject to terms and conditions.
There is no instant success. We have to work for what we want to achieve. Success means enduring discomfort and maximizing resources. It means sacrificing for a goal that means a lot to us. “No pain, no gain.”
What if Decena and other successful individuals merely gave up on their goals due to “lack of resources”?
To those who think they are on the same boat, do everything you can. It is comforting to think that God helps those who help themselves. Things will not change in an instant, but your sacrifices are not forever.
God will reward your sacrifices and your faithfulness… and you know what? He moves without giving any status update.
